Omar Sy to join new X-Men film
Intouchables star will play alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman and James McAvoy
FRENCH actor Omar Sy, one of the stars of Les Intouchables, has been signed up for the new X-men movie Days of Future Past, to play alongside Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence.
Sy, who recently overtook Yannick Noah to be named French people’s most-liked star, is one of the new names director Bryan Singer is signing up for the next film to join the likes of Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender already confirmed.
Singer revealed the news in a Tweet saying “Thrilled to welcome the brilliant #OmarSy from the amazing film #TheIntouchables to the cast of #Xmen #DaysofFuturePast!"
There has been no word yet on who Sy will play or what superpowers he will possess. But it is a massive boost for his popularity worldwide after his role as Driss in Les Intouchables helped the film become a word-of-mouth global blockbuster.
The film was nominated for eight César Awards and earned Sy the César for Best Actor, beating Jean Dujardin who had been nominated for his role in The Artist.
