Orange alert for storms in Occitanie
Five departments in Occitanie are on orange alert for violent storms until midnight tomorrow (Wednesday).
The areas concerned, where there are risks of violent storms and heavy rain, are Ariège, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées and Tarn-et-Garonne.
Météo France says the worst storms will be slowly moving from the north of Haute-Garonne towards Tarn-et-Garonne during the late morning.
Others will break out during the afternoon in the foothills of the Pyrenees, from Haute-Garonne to Ariège, continuing until the middle of the night.
The storms will be accompanied by strong rains. In some areas up to 100mm is predicted to fall in total, sometimes with as much as 50mm falling in a single hour.
Météo France says people should take care especially if travelling or taking part in outdoor activities. It also advises avoiding using your mobile or other electronic devices outside and says people should not shelter in wooded areas.
