Ouch! As Mini long-jump fails
Daredevil Guerlain Chicherit fails to break world record at Tignes but survives somersaults on landing
CRASH, bang wallop and after half-a-dozen somersaults Guerlain Chicherit was pulled alive and almost unhurt from the remains of his supercharged Mini at Tignes Val Claret ski station after trying to jump a world record 110m.
However, his bid to snatch the longest jump record from Tanner Foust fell short when the 1,500kg Mini nose-dived into the landing ramp at 82m. See the video of the jump here.
Later speaking from his hospital bed in Chambéry where the Mini’s safety cage left him with just a few scrapes and a sore shoulder, he said on his Facebook page: "Cheers everybody! Thanks a lot for all your supports!”
Daredevil Chicherit was quadruple world ski freeride champion before turning to cars and was fifth in the 2009 Dakar rally before attempting stunts such as a backflip in February last year (flying car) and driving his Mini at speed across the lake at Tignes (Mini on water).
