Car owners spent an average of €5,883 on fuel, insurance, maintenance, road tolls and other costs last year. Extra fuel tax saw costs up from €240 to €350 extra with tolls up 2% and insurance rising 2-3%.
Drivers in Brittany paid the lowest insurance, €405, while those in Nouvelle Aquitaine paid the most at €431.
