Paris speed limit could be capped at 30 km/h
The maximum speed limit across the whole of Paris could soon be just 30 km/h by 2020, if a project aiming to reduce pollution and noise goes ahead.
The project from the Mairie of Paris (town hall), is due to be voted on by the Conseil de Paris at the end of this month (September), as reported by French news source Le Figaro.
If it goes ahead, the project will gradually spread “zones 30” areas across the capital by 2020, capping the limit at 30 km/h across central Paris, except for a designated network of major roads, on which the limit will remain at 50 km/h.
The project is also aiming to improve road safety, as well as reduce pollution and noise.

From 2017 to 2018, neighbourhoods across the 5th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th arrondissements will see speed limits introduced, and by 2020 most of the city will be covered.
The ‘zones 30’ areas will be created alongside cycle lanes in both directions, with adapted signposting of the new rules at the entrance of each new zone.
