Paris to Brest in 3 hours by 2014
New high speed line will shave 90 minutes off current journey time to Breton port.
A high-speed railway line between Paris and Brest will cut the journey time to three hours when it is completed in 2014.
Environment minister Jean-Louis Borloo said the 182km line was a symbol of the government’s promise to build more high speed rail links following the Grenelle de l’Environnement.
The ligne à grande vitesse will also cut the journey time from the capital to Rennes from two hours 15 minutes to one and a half hours.
The project will cost €3.4 billion and will be financed by central government, the regions of Brittany and Pays de la Loire and will involve a public / private partnership. Work is due to begin in 2010.
It will run from the junction at Connéré near Le Mans where the western branch of the LGV Atlantique currently terminates.
