Paris became a fairytale sight over the weekend after snow fell – and settled – in the city.
The capital was one of several areas to see snow as temperatures dropped amid a cold snap.
Up to 4cm of snow fell overnight between Saturday and Sunday (November 22 - 23), a significant amount as the city often misses out on snowfall over the winter period.
Despite snow falling most winters in the capital, such quantities are becoming rarer and it is uncommon for the snow to settle for such a long period.
Social media was awash with scenic photos of the capital, including some of its most iconic landmarks, under the snow.
People on social media were quick to point out that the snow added to the typically ‘romantic’ atmosphere of the capital in winter.
In Montmartre, revellers took the opportunity to sledge down the city’s famous hill.
They also had snowball fights and built miniature snowmen.
Despite a new cold snap expected in the middle of this week, the city is unlikely to see another bout of snowfall.
However, intermittent rain at the start and end of the week is likely – see more in our weekly weather report.
