Police hunt serial killer
Hundreds have been mobilised in bid to find a so-called ‘entrance hall killer’ who is thought to have struck four times
HUNDREDS of police have been mobilised in an effort to track down a suspected serial killer in the Essonne, Ile-de-France.
Four deaths are believed to have been carried out with the same gun by a so-called “entrance hall killer” – who kills his victims at their apartment blocks.
The latest attack came on Thursday, when a 47-year-old Algerian mother was shot dead.
Since then, many residents, especially elderly people, are reportedly no longer leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary.
“Jacky”, who owns a restaurant opposite the site of the first and third shootings in Juvisy-sur-Orge told France Soir: “Every night, when we close, we are on the lookout. There is a feeling of apprehension. Some retirees among our customers do not dare go out alone. Some haven’t even crossed the street to eat to with us yet.”
The authorities have responded with a heavily increased police presence. Between Ris-Orangis, Grigny and Juvisy, hundreds of men have been mobilised, mainly around the RN7 where identity checks are in force.
The killings come in the wake of the recent shootings in Toulouse by Mohamed Merah, 23, who killed three Jewish schoolchildren, a rabbi and three off-duty paratroopers before being cornered in his apartment and then killed in a police shootout.
