Power cut hits south east

Traffic lights and trams out in Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, Alpes-Maritimes and Monaco.

A POWERCUT stopped traffic lights and trams in three departments and the neighbouring state of Monaco for nearly two hours.

A spokesman for EDF at Marseille said the outage had been linked to a high voltage line but an official cause had not been found.

In Nice the city’s trams stopped and there were reports of people being stuck in lifts.

A spokesman for Nice Airport, the third largest in France, said it switched to back up power automatically and was unaffected.

The power was restored around 11.30.
