Pyrénées-Orientales on orange storm alert for Friday night
Storms and heavy rainfall could last until Saturday afternoon
The department of Pyrénées-Orientales in the south of France has been placed on orange storm alert with heavy rainfall expected to last from Friday night to Saturday afternoon.
Meteorological service Météo-France is predicting storms, heavy rain and potential floods.
It states that over the course of the day on Friday there will be occasionally stormy showers, which will become much stronger in the evening, especially in the south of the department.
There could be between 20 to 40mm of rainfall in a short period of time.
It is predicted that the rain will stop at the end of Saturday afternoon.
The orange alert level is the second highest alert before red. Weather forecasters advise people living in orange alert zones to be very careful.

The two departments of Corsica have also been placed on orange alert level. Heavy rainfall and storms are to mainly affect the east and south of the island. It is predicted to last all day Saturday and into the early hours of Sunday.
Aude, the department directly north of Pyrénées-Orientales, has been placed on yellow alert warning.
