Register to vote in UK elections
A General Election must be called by June 3, 2010 – make sure you can vote
A UK General Election must be called by June 3, 2010 and UK nationals overseas can register to vote by proxy or postal vote through a government website.
Note that if you have been living out of the country for more than 15 years, the UK government withdraws your right to vote in parliamentary elections. For more on the legal campaign to overturn this law see October's issue of Connexion out in newsagents now.
The easiest way to register to vote in the UK is via the government website www.aboutmyvote.co.uk
Click on "Overseas voters" to download and print the form for voter registration. You will need to insert the postcode of your last address in Britain so the form is sent to the appropriate Election Registration Office. You will need another British expat (not related to you) to witness your signature.
If your request is unsuccessful because of the 15-year rule, send details of the result of your application to campaigner Paul Williams at paulw@123voyage.com or fax to 05 59 38 99 11.
For more on the campaign see http://euro-citizens.com
