Relaxed speeding laws proposed
Drivers going less than 5km over the speed limit will not be punished if a new law goes through.
MOTORISTS who exceed the speed limit by less than 5km would not be punished under a proposed change to speeding laws.
The idea comes from Senator Nicolas About (Union Centriste) who has said the existing system is “not road safety but road repression.” It will be discussed on Thursday.
He added the current fines and points removals for tiny speeding offences of just one or two kph over the limit were “out of proportion.”
“It is necessary for punishments to be meaningful,” he said in an interview with France Info.
An Obéa-IntraForces poll for the magazine Auto Plus showed that 71% of people thought no points should be removed for small speeding excesses.
