Robbers hit Sarkozy brother
Home of François Sarkozy hit by thieves in same district where president’s ex-wife was burgled in January.
BURGLARS have hit the home of President Sarkozy’s younger brother François in the upmarket district of Neuilly-sur-Seine in Paris.
The robbers gained entry to the property via a French window, while the owner was abroad.
It is thought they stole several thousand euros worth of possessions.
The robbery took place on February 10, just days after the home of Sarkozy’s ex-wife Cécilia and her new husband Richard Attias was burgled in the same district. Some estimates place the couple’s losses at up to half a million euros, after the thieves stole jewellery and other valuables at the beginning of January.
Neuilly-sur-Seine is inextricably linked with President Sarkozy – who is a former mayor of the district.
His son Jean Sarkozy is one of the youngest councillors in France, elected to the Hauts-de-Seine departmental council that governs Neuilly-sur-Seine.
He is also president of the UMP party in the department.
Neuilly-sur-Seine is also served by one of France’s most famous postmen – former presidential candidate Olivier Besancenot, who recently wound up his Ligue communiste révolutionnaire (LCR) party to launch a new Nouveau Parti Anticapitaliste (NPA) last week.
In July 2008, the Parisian apartment of Ségolène Royal was burgled, leading to a political storm after she suggested it was a “funny coincidence” the robbery took place just after she criticised “the grip” of President Sarkozy’s “clan”.
