Safety fuel top-ups 'not needed' French motorists told

Motorists in France have no need to stock up on petrol or diesel despite ongoing union blockades at refineries and oil depots, the government has said.

Fuel supply stocks are at 'an excellent level', with enough supply for 'more than three months' of normal daily consumption, the Ministry of Ecological Transition said in a statement as it called on drivers to avoid unnecessary 'safety fill-ups'.

A total 98% of the 11,000 service stations in France have 'no difficulty' and are being 'normally supplied', the statement said.

Every refinery in France is operational, the Ministry said, while adding that blockades at six out of seven refineries are experiencing 'temporary difficulties in their shipments'.

The blockades, called by the CGT union are part of the ongoing pension reform protests.
