Sarkozy ‘will not move to London’

Adviser to ex-president denies he has been helping plan €1 billion UK-based investment fund and that he will move there

AN ADVISER to Nicolas Sarkozy has denied claims the ex-president asked him to help create a €1billion investment fund in London or that Sarkozy himself plans to move there.

“Nicolas Sarkozy doesn’t need me to meet the world’s biggest investment funds,” Alain Minc, an adviser to the wealthy with close links to the former president told Le Figaro.

He denied any current negotiations on creating a new fund, saying “he has tons of contacts and hasn’t decided what he’s going to do”.

It was “absurd to imagine he might go and live in London and stop paying taxes in France,” Mr Minc added.

The investigative site Mediapart had alleged Sarkozy has been using his speaking engagements around the world to make contact with fund managers and potential investors, with Mr Minc’s help.

Citing anonymous sources from the business and finance worlds, the site said the ex-president had however not “made a definitive decision to go ahead”.
