Job cuts and teacher training reform prompt thousands of teachers to take to the streets
THOUSANDS of teachers will walk out on a national one-day strike tomorrow - a move that has been supported by France's biggest student union.
Teaching union FSU called the day of action to campaign against proposed changes to training and 50,000 planned job cuts over the next five years.
The union - which claims 160,000 members across the public sector - is joined by the CGT, which is also supporting the strike.
According to France Soir, demonstrations will take place around France, including a big gathering at the Port-Royal in Paris tomorrow afternoon.
Student union Unef has encouraged its members to join the action.
Since last year, education authorities have been required by law to provide a minimum level of service (service minimum d'accueil) in the event of a strike.
Staff must be on hand to look after primary school children, to allow their parents to still go to work.
