The public can visit preparation areas and have a go on the check-outs as supermarket tries to fight its bad boy image
THOUSANDS of people have signed up to special open days being held at Carrefour supermarkets across the country.
Registration opened last weekend and the first behind-the-scenes tours will start on October 5.
The supermarket is following Amazon, which also opened one of its main distribution centres for the general public to visit.
Visitors will be able to see and help prepare bread for the bakery, cut meat at the butchers and finally have a go working at a checkout.
More than 200 of Carrefour’s 230 supermarkets are taking part, with the 20-minute tours starting at 7.00 when aisles are quiet.
A spokesman for Carrefour said the tours would combat received ideas about how the supermarkets operated following bad press in stand-offs against farmers. It would also highlight action taken by the supermarkets against food waste.
