Semaine du Goût teaches taste
Demonstrations and tastings held for children from babies to teenagers, plus restaurant offers and more
LESSONS in taste are at the fore of the Semaine du Goût, which is organising thousands of activities over the next few days.
Butchers, chefs, pastry chefs, bakers, cheese-makers and more are giving talks and demonstrations in 5,000 events across the country.
The focus is on teaching children and young people about different aspects of food: taste, texture, presentation, the origin of products and the processes that take them from the field to the plate.
The event, which runs until October 19, is in its 25th year.
Even babies are taking part with the Petites Chaperons rouges crèche network producing a book and holding events to stimulate the children's interest in food.
A range of products that have received an official 'approved by children' label has been released.
University students can attend talks by chefs demonstrating how to make easy, balanced and tasty meals.
As part of the event, the annual Rencontre Nationale des Chefs de Demain, will be open to the public for the first time.
Visitors to the event at the l’Ecole Hôtelière de Paris will be able to watch demonstrations and hear talks from student chefs, their Michelin-starred heroes and award-winning culinary experts (winners of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France).
Restaurants are also taking part with Tables du Goût, menus with a range of dishes conceived for their taste. Click here to find out who is participating.
This year France's growing fleet of food trucks are also taking part – with special additions to menus in honour of the Semaine du Goût.
