SNCF gives make-up tips to staff
Charges of sexism as train operator produces fashion-magazine style leaflet for its female controllers
AN SNCF guide to fashion and make-up for female controllers has been leaked online - prompting charges of sexism.
It gives tips on earrings, jewellry (must be discreet) and nail varnish and has been produced to look like a beauty magazine spread.
The rail operator also suggests using moisturiser, hints of blusher and waterproof mascara (“because it holds better”) and subtle perfume.
The leaflet was leaked yesterday on Twitter, prompting accusations of sexism, and even racism, as the make up tips appeared geared solely to white skin.
“It’s just tips to for a good appearance, in the manner of producing the best professional service possible,” said the SNCF, which denied that there was any compulsion to follow them.
The rail operator claims the leaflet also contains tips for men on how to wear beards, moustaches or long hair, but the Twitter who leaked the document denies it.
