Snow hits public transport
Prefectures cancel bus services and ban lorries from roads in the Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne
PUBLIC transport, including school buses, will not run today in three departments.
The prefectures of Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne have issued bans as snow strikes the central west region of France.
Roads have been rendered particularly hazardous after rain and freezing temperatures have created icy surfaces.
The ban remains in place until 10am.
While the ban affects school buses, schools themselves will remain open and bus services will operate in the afternoon to return pupils home.
Weather warnings have also been issued for all departments in Normandy, Brittany, Pays-de-la-Loire, Poitou-Charentes and parts of Aquitaine and the Midi-Pyrénées, where snow and ice are also expected.
