Social network for Paris metro users
Submate.com aims to make commuting more sociable by allowing passengers to find others who take the same journey
A NEW website has launched allowing passengers on the Paris metro to make friends with their fellow commuters and make the daily trip more sociable.
Submate.com has launched in public test mode ahead of a full launch, and for the moment is only available in English.
Passengers can create an account, upload a photo and personal information and find other people who take the same journey as them.
The site's developer, Paris-based programmer Laurent Kretz, told the New York Post: "Every day, before and after your commute, you're surrounded by people. Among them, there might be a bass player for your band - or a cute girl you could date."
The site hopes to make money by displaying advertising based on the passenger's selected location - for example, local businesses.
The French rail operator SNCF already offers a similar service for idTGV passengers, who can register online and meet others taking their train before their journey begins.
Air France also has a social network called BlueNity.fr for frequent air travellers.
