Speed limit cut on the A8
The speed limit on the A8 motorway has been reduced to110kmph as it passes through the Alpes-Maritimes
THE SPEED limit on the A8 motorway has been reduced to 110kmph on its 24km stretch through the Alpes-Maritimes.
The aim of the reduction – from a previous maximum of 130kmph – is to reduce the number of serious road accidents.
The decision by the prefecture comes as a result of a six-month experiment, carried out on the stretch between Antibes and the mouth of the river Loup.
Decreasing the upper speed limit by 20 kmph was found to reduce the number of accidents, shrink traffic jams and reduce emissions.
Signs displaying the old speed limit were replaced with new ones last night. Fifteen days’ grace will allow for motorists to adjust.
