Spring snow leaves 50,000 French homes without power
Technicians' efforts to restore electricity to properties in three departments hampered by conditions
Engineers are working to restore power to some 50,000 properties that were cut off due to heavy overnight snowfall.
Unexpected snow caused major damage to the electricity network, notably due to falling trees, supplier Enedis said, and that 35,000 homes in the Haute-Savoie, 9,000 in Isère and 6,000 in Savoie had been cut off.
"Enedis technicians and specialist companies have been mobilised since the early hours of the crisis and will continue their work until late at night," the company said in a statement, adding that the operation was hindered because snow had made numerous roads impassable.
Enedis reminds you that you should never approach power lines that have fallen to the ground or touch an object in contact with a line. For your safety, respect the marked areas near the intervention zones. If you witness an incident on the network, report it to them on 09 726 750 + your department number.
