Staff ‘bossnap’ Goodyear chiefs
Employees held two directors in the Amiens factory overnight, in a bid to force them to renegotiate redundancy terms
TWO Goodyear directors have been held against their will overnight at the Amiens-Nord factory, which is in the process of closing down.
The directors of production and human resources were “bossnapped” yesterday morning, and they and the employees holding them captive are reported to have stayed awake last night with the aid of a lot of coffee and chocolate.
They had told the employees that it was out of the question that they should benefit from the financial conditions that were offered to others who took voluntary redundancy last year.
It now looks certain the factory will close as a consultation process on the arrangements for the staff finished in November. Closure was originally announced in January.
A CGT union representative for the staff, Franck Jurek, told France Info: “We want to get back to the negotiating table – see if it’s not possible for someone to take over the factory. If not, a voluntary redundancies plan for everyone with loads of dosh.”
The directors refused, saying arrangements had been finalised.
A negotiation meeting is supposed to take place this morning at the Amiens work inspectorate, with unions and representatives of Goodyear and of the state.
