Storm warning in four departments
Météo France puts Charente, Dordogne, Vienne and Haute-Vienne on orange alert for heavy rainfall
METEO France has put four departments on orange alert for heavy storms today.
The forecaster said intense storms are expected to develop in Charente, Dordogne, Vienne and Haute-Vienne this afternoon - and warned people to expect localised rainfall of up to 70mm.
Hail is also forecast.
The storms are expected to move rapidly eastward and reach departments near the Massif Central before evening.
Météo France said that the orange alert could then be extended to Lot and Corrèze.
Storm forecaster Keraunos also warned that other storm cells will develop in western Burgundy, Champagne, Ardennes and Nord into the evening.
