Strasbourg man jailed for four months for bottom slap
A man has been imprisoned for four months after being found guilty of slapping a young woman’s bottom in a Strasbourg (Grand Est) street.
The man, who has not been named, was found guilty of approaching the 19-year-old woman on the city’s Rue Kuhn, while she was walking to the Gare Centrale - at the end of the street - in broad daylight.
He was seen by a passer-by to mumble some “incomprehensible” words at the woman, before hitting the right side of the woman’s bottom as she was walking away, as reported in French news website 20 Minutes.
The passer-by who witnessed the assault then called the police.
During the trial, the prosecutor called the action “particularly degrading and humiliating” for the young woman affected, but added that the move had seemed “normal” for the perpetrator, who was already known to the justice system.
The guilty man, who was reportedly drunk at the time of the offence, had only done it “to joke around”, he said, in his defence.
He was sentenced to four months of closed prison time, and ordered to pay €500 in damages and interest.
