Strike will hit rail services

Three out of four TERs will run, TGV will be almost as normal but traffic will be reduced outside rush hour

RAIL services across France are expected to be disrupted tomorrow as part of a Europe-wide strike in protest at the opening of the railway market to private competition.

However, SNCF said the disruption would not be major as it expected three out of four services on the TERs (local trains) to be running and normal service on the TGVs (fast intercity services), with the exception of the Atlantique which will see seven trains out of 10.

Rush hour in Ile-de-France will see an average of three trains out of four, with normal running out of Paris-Nord, Paris Est and Paris-Lyon; Paris-Montparnasse with seven trains out of 10 and Paris-Saint Lazare six trains out of 10. The RER will see normal service on RER A and E, seven of 10 trains on the RER D, while two out of three trains will run on RER B and C. Services will be reduced outside rush hour.

International services will see normal running on the Eurostar, Thalys (to Brussels) and Artésia (to Italy), and slight disruption on the Lyria service to Switzerland.

Elsewhere, the daily inter-city services including Téoz will have one train in two.

Night trains will run as normal to Germany and Italy but there will be only one service towards Spain. Only the Toulouse and Nice internal overnight service will run.

The European day of action was called in advance of a decision by the European Parliament on plans to create a single market on the rail network and encourage new business.
