Strong winds for ski hol getaway
Gusts up to 120kph in the Rhône and Loire departments, on a busy weekend for the region's roads
METEO France has issued a weather warning for Lyon, the rest of the Rhône department and the neighbouring Loire department because of strong winds.
The orange alert is in place until 16.00 on Sunday and coincides with a busy weekend on the region's roads as the half-term ski holiday getaway is under way.
The winds will be at their strongest overnight, with gusts of up to 120kph in some places. Road, rail and air travel could be disrupted.
Traffic monitor Bison Futé is advising drivers to exercise caution when overtaking and to cut their speeds on bridges and when entering and exiting tunnels.
Météo France says residents in the two affected departments should tie down or store away any loose items in their garden, avoid doing work on the roof and look out for fallen trees when driving.
