Tarantino to join Scarlett at Césars

QUENTIN Tarantino will join Scarlett Johansson at the prestigious César awards ceremony in Paris on Friday, organisers have said.

The Django Unchained director will be giving an honorary César to the Don Jon and Her actress, awards president Alain Terzian told AFP.

The star-studded ceremony at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris is being held two days before the Oscars.

Neither Tarantino nor Johansson are in the running for an Academy Award statuette this year, though Her, a movie to which Johansson lends her sultry voice, has been nominated for a Best Picture gong.

Tarantino won a César for best foreign film back in 1995 for Pulp Fiction and an honorary César in 2011 for all of his work.

Johansson, who is engaged to a French journalist, will be recognised at the Césars for a career in which she has already made 35 films since first coming to cinemagoers attention as a 14-year-old in Robert Redford’s The Horse Whisperer.

But she could be in for a mixed reception in the French media.

Last month, as reported in The Connexion, declared on US television that Parisians lived up to their “rude” stereotype.

She also created a stir internationally by ditching her role as ambassador for the British charity Oxfam in favour of continuing with an Israeli company, SodaSteam, which runs a factory on illegally occupied Palestinian territory.
