‘Thousands’ seek dual nationality
A survey suggests that many Britons in EU countries want to take dual nationality due to uncertainty over a ‘Brexit’
THOUSANDS of people across the EU are applying for dual nationality due to fears about possible effects of a ‘Brexit’, according to The Guardian.
The British daily makes the claim based on a survey it did, which it says showed many people were applying for dual nationality and expressed concerns about a Brexit as a key reason.
This included both continental Europeans in the UK applying for British nationality and Britons on the continent applying for the nationality of the country where they live.
Even the most “cautious extrapolation” would suggest “thousands of Europeans are taking similar action”, the paper says.
This comes as Connexion’s August edition looks at the option for millions of Britons with Irish family connections to take Irish nationality and September’s paper will look at how to take French nationality.
If you are applying for dual nationality, and part of the reason is the uncertainty surrounding a Brexit and its possible impact on expats’ rights, we would be interested in hearing from you at news[at]connexionfrance.com.
The current (August) edition of The Connexion is on sale in newsagents or can be downloaded as a PDF here: Back issues.
