Tour Montparnasse to shine at night

Blue LEDs and pulsating lights will not rival the Eiffel Tower's hourly sparkle, organisers say

PARIS'S tallest building, the Tour Montparnasse, is to shine at night from next summer, joining its neighbour the Eiffel Tower in an evening light display.

Blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) will be installed between floors, with a set of pulsating lights at the summit.

The work is being carried out by Agence Lumière, a company in the Isère that specialises in illuminating buildings.

Director Régis Clouzet told Le Parisien the display would be more sober than the Eiffel Tower's hourly sparkle.

"It wasn't a question of going one better on the Eiffel Tower," he said.

It is hoped the lights will be ready for June 21, to coincide with the Fête de la Musique.

The first tests will be carried out on Nuit Blanche, October 2.
