Trains restored after power cut
40,000 passengers stranded at Gare d'Austerlitz on first weekend of summer break after lightning hit a power line
TRAIN services on one of the key routes out of Paris have returned to normal today after a power cut left 40,000 passengers stranded over the weekend.
Routes out of the Gare d'Austerlitz were completely suspended on Saturday after lightning hit a power line.
The cancellations came as thousands of people were due to leave the capital for the south-west and Spain on the first weekend of the summer getaway.
The SNCF began operating services on the line yesterday morning and all routes are running as normal today.
The rail operator has promised a refund to anyone who made alternative travel arrangements, and passengers can swap for another train without any extra charge.
