Travellers face railway misery

TRAVELLERS hit in the air control strike may not be able to use trains to complete their journeys later this week as the main rail unions have announced a strike from tomorrow at 19.00 until Friday at 8.00.

SNCF is still waiting for firm information from employees on how many will be joining the strike before it can reveal how badly the network will be affected. It will have to rejig timetables to keep TGVs running as well as the commuter network.

However, Thursday promises to be a difficult day for anyone contemplating long-distance travel across France. Even trains that are running will face delays and commuter trains will be extremely busy.

The unions CGT, Unsa, SUD-Rail and CFDT are protesting over government plans to reform the rail network.

CGT has also called a strike for Thursday by its members in the energy sector to attack planned power station closures.
