UK-France travel services disrupted
Ferry companies have announced changes in services including in one case complete cancellation for several days to weeks depending on the crossing.
Eurostar has also announced a 'reduced timetable' for travel in coming weeks.
The situation, depending on the company, is as follows:
Brittany ferries
Ferries between France and UK will stop for a few days.
Services between Caen and Portsmouth will stop on Thursday 19. The last departure from Portsmouth to Caen will be at 8:15. The last sailing from Caen to Portsmouth will depart on Thursday 19 at 14:45.
This route will be suspended until April 9, at least.
After these dates, only freight transport will continue.
Other routes affected are: Cherbourg-Poole; Saint-Malo-Portsmouth; Roscoff-Plymouth.
The last departure from Saint-Malo to Portsmouth is tonight Tuesday 17, at 20:30. This route will be suspended until at least March 22.
The last departure from Roscoff to Plymouth is Wednesday 18, at 15:00. This route will be suspended until at least March 26.
The last departure for Poole from Cherbourg was on Monday 16, 21:45. This route is suspended until at least March 23.
These services are suspended until March 26.
Passengers are advised to travel only if necessary. They are advised to take food and drink with them. All the shops and restaurants will be closed on board.
Passengers and freight drivers will also need to stay in their cabins while travelling.
DFDS
The number of passengers allowed to travel between Calais and Dover, and Dunkirk and Dover is now reduced by 50% until at least April 6.
Timetables are unchanged and reservations are still possible for passengers wishing to return home, and passengers with 'imperative' reasons for travel.
P&O
Ferries are running as usual at present but the firm is advising that people continue to check for updates at this link. Travellers will be contacted if there is any change on their sailing.
The company CEO, Janette Bell, said in a statement: “Notwithstanding the current uncertainty, we are confident that our services will keep running.
“Moreover, ships are divided into teams, consisting of separate watches each with a day shift and a night shift, and any crew member who is symptomatic can be isolated."
Eurostar
Trains are running on a reduced timetable for the coming weeks and passengers are advised to check.
They are still running to all destinations and usual terms and conditions apply.
The firm warns that people may not be able to travel from the UK into the EU if they are not UK or EU citizens or cannot show a UK/EU residency permit.
