Unions call for national strike
A number of unions covering healthcare, education and transport have called for action on June 25
UNIONS of rail workers, health professionals and other public transport sectors across France have given notice of a national day of action on June 25.
Notices of strike action calling for walkouts and protests have been given in different departments and professions.
Among the reasons given for the strikes are a push for salary increases, opposition to the reforms of the Loi Macron and changes to the healthcare system.
Marches and rallies are being organised in various towns, principally by the Force Ouvrière, CGT and SUD unions.
The number of unions taking part varies between professions and regions and there are no indications of how many members plan to take part.
While some unions are going on strike, others have just called for a ‘day of action’ and protest.
Areas that could be affected include schools (or services for children where schools have broken up for summer), trains, buses and non-emergency health treatment.
