Unsettled weather to end year in France: gales, local flooding alerts

Less sunshine ahead but mild temperatures to remain

The sunshine of Christmas will give way to several days of unsettled weather to end the year. We look at the forecast for the last four days of 2024.

The general outlook is windy in the north and overcast in the south, with temperatures between 9°C and 12°C on Thursday and Friday. Saturday is expected to see sunshine in the south, giving way to showers across the country on Sunday.

Thursday December 28

Cloudy skies are forecast over most of the country with strong winds continuing in the northern half of France. Many departments remain on alert for local flooding, largely due to the high levels of France’s water table.

Friday December 29

The overcast weather will continue over most of France and the gales will increase in intensity in the north, reaching highs of 70km/h along the Normandy coast, dying down in the evening.

Scattered showers will fall on the northern half of France.

Saturday December 30

The gales affecting the northern half of France will become more severe, reaching 75km/h along the Normandy coast.

The cloud cover will continue in the north, while the south will see the last sunny weather of the year, with highs of 16°C forecast in Perpignan.

Sunday December 31

Heavy cloud and showers are forecast all day for most of the country, with high winds likely to continue in the northern half.
