UPDATE: Easyjet flights on target

UPDATE: Airline says it will operate a full service of flights to and from France despite pilots' bank holiday walk out

LOW-COST airline easyJet hopes to operate a full service of flights despite Assumption bank holiday strike action by more than 200 of its pilots in France.

Apart from one flight cancelled from Nice to Toulouse tomorrow evening at 17.00, the company has managed to maintain its full schedule despite the strike by pilots in the Syndicat National des Pilotes de Ligne Français.

The pilots plan three days of action: tomorrow and on August 17 and 19 as part of their demand for pay increases and a bonus to reflect the company's "very good results".

Easyjet communications director Paul Moore told Connexion: "Our aim is to run a full schedule of flights and we have been working hard to attain this."

The company is still in negotiation with the union and earlier said it was "astonished at the strike threat from the pilots while annual pay negotiations are still in progress and just after an agreement had been reached on the new bases at Toulouse and Nice".

Airbus pilot Didier Bourguignon, the secretary of easyJet's CHSCT works committee, said he doubted that the action would have a major effect on traffic. The dispute affects only French crews and "only on certain flights to and from France".

The new law forcing French aircrew to give the company 48 hours' notice of their intention to strike has allowed the company to plan its working arrangements to cover the strike.
