Villagers sing for right to broadband
Les Enfants du Numérique record campaign song and video to complain about lack of fast internet access in their village
A GROUP of rural residents in Franche-Comté angered by the lack of broadband internet access in their village have released a pop song and video to raise awareness of their campaign.
The villagers in Provenchère in the Haute-Saône, who call themselves Les Enfants du Numérique, have attracted 4,000 views on YouTube so far.
The group says it has had enough of living in a zone grise, where only a handful of homes enjoy fast internet access.
It wants everyone in the area to receive broadband and the low-cost telephone calls and TV that come with it.
Consumer UFC-Que Choisir is calling for access to broadband internet to be considered a basic right for every citizen in France. Finland has already passed a law to this effect.
