Warning over ice in northeast
National forecaster Météo-France lifts overnight orange weather alert in all but four departments
FOUR departments in the east France remain on “orange alert” for icy conditions today, Météo-France has warned.
The national forecaster said that residents in Vosges, Côte-d'Or, Haute-Saône and Territoire de Belfort to avoid travelling if possible and said anyone who does take to the roads should to take extra care and drive according to the conditions.
This morning, three motorists in Lyoffans, Haute-Saône, suffered minor injuries after losing control of their vehicles and leaving the road in separate incidents in the icy conditions.
The latest orange weather alert is in place until 6am tomorrow, as temperatures rise slowly towards the weekend.
Yesterday evening, Météo-France placed nine departments in the northeast on orange alert for snow and ice as temperatures dipped: Ardennes, Bas-Rhin, Côte-d'Or, Haute-Saône, Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Territoire de Belfort and Vosges, before today lifting the warning for all departments but four.
It warned that although the conditions were not exceptional for the time of year, they were likely to cause travel disruption, and said that some disruption to power and telephone services was possible.
