Weekend weather: Unseasonal heat expected across most of France
Despite rain on Sunday in the west, dry conditions mean the risk of wildfires remains in the south

France is set for yet another warm weekend as temperatures remain well above seasonal averages across much of the country.
The warm weather can already be felt today (Friday), with temperatures reaching 30C or more in many parts of the south and west while the north will see an unseasonably warm afternoon.
Temperatures will rise this afternoon, reaching 32C in Toulouse, Limoges and Perpignan, and 31C in Tours, Nantes and Bordeaux.
Paris is forecast to reach 30C, while Lyon and Lille could see 28C. Temperatures will reach 26C in Nice and Marseille and 24C in Biarritz.
Meanwhile, La Chaîne Météo forecasts 29C in Paris, which would make September 25 the hottest September 25 in Paris since 1895.
Temperatures could also reach 30C in Rouen. If reached, it would be the latest day in the year when 30C was recorded in the city.
On the other hand, some areas of the south will see more unsettled conditions, with a risk of showers in the southern Alps and Corsica.
Saturday will see clouds return in the west
The weather will remain dry and warm on Saturday, although clouds will begin to increase in western France.
Temperatures will remain high however, reaching around 22C to 27C along the Atlantic coast.
In the Mediterranean, temperatures are set to reach 26C to 30C while the sea will also remain unusually warm for the time of year, reaching up to 26C around Corsica.
The north and north-west will be slightly cooler. Around the Channel, temperatures of 20C to 21C are expected at the coast.
The Atlantic coast will see a more changeable day, with some morning cloud and mist before brighter conditions develop.
Sunday to bring some rain in the west
Sunday will remain warm across much of France, but conditions will become more unsettled in western areas.
Météo-France forecasts that a weather front will move into Brittany and Cotentin, bringing some rain.
A few showers could also develop between southern Brittany and the mouth of the Loire later in the day.
The Atlantic coast could still see temperatures of around 23C to 28C, while the Mediterranean will remain sunny, with highs of 24C to 28C.
Fire risk remains high
Despite the arrival of autumn, the combination of high temperatures, dry conditions and limited rainfall means that the risk of wildfires remains significant in France.
The risk is especially high around the Mediterranean, where dry vegetation and periods of strong wind can make fires spread more easily.
Météo-France said the 2026 wildfire season has been particularly long, “with an early start and an end that is still uncertain.”
The warm weather is expected to continue next week, with temperatures possibly rising further on Tuesday before rain moves across the country on Wednesday and Thursday.
