Where do I get death certificate?
Anyone is allowed to request a copy of a death certificate in France. It has to be done at the mairie where person died
TO TRANSFER ownership of our recently-acquired dog, the Société Canine Centrale are requesting that we provide a death certificate of the owner to whom the dog was chipped and registered. The original owner (an English woman) died in France about five years ago and had no other family in France. Is it possible to get a copy of a death certificate online? If not, is there someone or some organisation we can contact to try to get one? G.B.
Anyone is allowed to request a copy of a death certificate in France, and it has to be done at the mairie where the person died or that of the last place where they lived.
Usually they will need the first name and surname of the person and the date when they died.
This service is free and can be done in person or in writing or on the internet. Some mairies allow you to do it via their own sites, otherwise you should try the new website www.acte-etat-civil.fr
