Who bugged the town mayor?
A miniature microphone is discovered in a light in the office of the Mayor of Saint-Maxime.
A TOWN mayor has asked the Interior Ministry to investigate all town halls and public office buildings after a microphone was discovered in his office.
Vincent Morisse, the mayor of Sainte-Maxime near Saint-Tropez in the Var, said he was “outraged” by the discovery.
“To put the minds of all staff and visitors at rest and to preserve the confidentiality of discussions I have asked the Interior Ministry to check all buildings of the local authority to see if spy microphones have been installed,” he said.
Mr Morisse said he began to have security doubts when he heard people discussing matters he had only spoken of in his office.
After baulking at the cost of €7,000 to have his office debugged, the mayor said a friend used a device to locate a high-pitched signal.
A miniature microphone powered by a battery was found in one of the ceiling spotlights.
It has since been handed over to the gendarmerie who are investigating.
