Wind warning of 120 kph in France for Storm Isaias

The storm is currently over the English Channel, with winds expected to reach speeds of 70 kph by the end of the morning, affecting the west of Bourgogne and Champagne-Ardenne.

Later, speeds are expected to reach 100-110 kph, and as high as 120 kph in mountainous regions, especially in winter ski stations.

Gusts of up to 80-100 kph are also expected from Poitou to Jura at the beginning of the afternoon.

Météo France has warned residents to be on alert, as the wind could cause damage and injury due to falling branches, trees, or objects.

All outside work should be postponed, and any outside objects should be secured. The forecaster also warned that driving conditions may be affected, as could airline and railway travel.

Electricity and telephone lines may also be damaged, it said.

In a statement, Météo France said: “This strong wind will hit Champagne and the west of Bourgogne at around midday, sweep across northeast France in the afternoon, and pass above Rhin and the Jura as night falls.”
