Woman finds elephant's foot
Decomposing discovery was probably brought into the garden by her dog and destined to be an antique
A WOMAN in Foulayronnes, Lot-et-Garonne made the surprise discovery of a decomposing elephant's foot in her garden.
“I think it was my dog who brought it into the garden,” she told the newspaper Sud Ouest. “He has a habit of going around the neighbours and bringing back stuff he finds in the bins. But the foot of an elephant...”
After first talking to friends, she contacted a vet who confirmed the foot was really that of an elephant and advised her to contact the gendarmerie.
The 27cm by 35cm foot was taken away and will be destroyed.
The L’Office national de la chasse et de la faune sauvage (ONCFS) said the foot had been cleaned and prepared and was probably brought in from overseas.
