Worker crushed to death by lift
Cabin dropped three floors on top of workmen as they worked in liftshaft
A WORKMAN has died and two others were severely injured when they were crushed by a falling lift in a Paris building.
Reports in Le Figaro said that they had been working in the well of the liftshaft when the lift dropped on top of them from the third floor.
While one workman was killed instantly the three others were left jammed into a space just 60-80cm high under the cabin of the lift. It took rescue crews nearly two hours to lift the cabin and free them.
They were part of a team making security checks on lifts in the capital for the mairie.
The accident, in a four-storey hostel in Rue Crespin-du-Gast in the 11th arrondissement, comes just weeks after another incident in the same arrondissement where a mother and two children were severely injured when their lift fell six storeys.
