France is considering phasing out one and two centime coins in coming years; a suggestion to EU states from the European Commission.
The plan, raised by new commission president Ursula von der Leyen, was put forward to cut bureaucracy and save money.
Prices would have to be rounded up to the nearest five centimes when making purchases by cash.
