The winter break ended on January 6 for children and teachers in public schools in all regions of France, however the next holidays follow a more complex calendar. 

France is divided into four different academic regions. 

This system is designed to ensure that not all families try to book into the same holiday spots at the same time, while simultaneously extending the season for the tourism sector.

The shorter holidays tend to take place at different times in different areas, while the longer holidays happen at the same time.
