Covid France: When will 65-74 year-olds be vaccinated?
This age group is not currently eligible as they are too young to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines and too old to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine
Reader question: I’m in the 65-74 age range. When will I get a Covid jab in France?
Health Minister Olivier Véran said yesterday (February 18) that the government is hoping to open vaccinations to this age range “between the end of March and middle of April, depending on the number of people aged over 75 who choose to be vaccinated”.
France began its public rollout of Covid-19 vaccinations on January 18 for those aged over 75.
Also currently eligible for the vaccination are people with serious medical conditions, all health professionals, emergency service workers and home carers over the age of 50, and all residents and staff in care homes.
Which high-risk people can be vaccinated in France?
From February 25, people aged between 50 to 64 will be eligible to receive the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccination, beginning with those people with existing medical conditions, such as diabetes, cancer, respiratory disease, chronic kidney disease, obesity, etc.
France to start Covid jabs for under 65s: Who is eligible?
The French health authority the Haute Autorité de Santé has not yet approved this vaccine for use among people aged over 65.
This means that people aged between 65 to 74 are for the moment unable to receive a Covid-19 vaccination in France, unless they are health professionals or have serious underlying health issues.
If you are not a health professional or do not have underlying health issues, you will have to wait until at least the end of March, according to Mr Véran.
There are over seven million people in France in this age category.
The UK has authorised the AstraZeneca vaccine for all adults.
If you are below the age of 75 and are a priority for a Covid-19 vaccination due to health reasons, you should be contacted directly by your doctor. You should contact your doctor if you have any questions.
