Free EU roaming in time for summer

Roaming fees in the EU are scrapped from June 15, with MEPs voting for a measure meaning calls, texts and internet will cost phone users the same in any EU country.

However, a fair use limitation means people cannot simply buy a cheap deal in one country and use it elsewhere without limit.

Free roaming applies if a French contract is used mainly in France and occasionally outside but if used most often outside France extra charges will apply – although minimal, at just 3.2 centimes per minute of a phone call and 1 centime for texts.

Data costs will be capped at €7.70/Gb.
