Drivers who have rented cars have reported being charged by rental companies over scratches that they are sure they have not caused... and which the company representative seemed well primed to find in unusual places.
Consumer groups have warned of the problem and advise those renting not to accept the list of faults offered by the firm but to do a thorough search – and to take photographs of all parts of the car, even under the bumpers, before using it.
